Discuss photographic representations of the nude through lively conversation and debate. Photo Forum gathers in the Museum’s Works on Paper Study Center to explore contemporary image-making, examining photographs from the Crocker's collection not currently on view. No prior art knowledge necessary—just bring your curiosity and willingness to look closely.
The conversation will be co-moderated by Crocker photography curator Francesca Wilmott and guest scholar, Raisa Rexer, Associate Professor of French at Vanderbilt University. Rexer's research focuses on literature and the history of photography in nineteenth-century France, with an emphasis on representations of sexuality and the body. She is the author of art criticism and articles that have appeared in art magazines, museum catalogues, and scholarly publications. Her first book, The Fallen Veil: A Literary and Cultural History of the Photographic Nude in Nineteenth-Century France, was published by University of Pennsylvania Press in 2021.
