Experience the Crocker's world-renowned collection and diverse exhibitions through discussion and artmaking, and let great art of the past and present inspire your own creative expression.
Delve into the dynamic relationship between visual art and written expression in our innovative ekphrasis class. Ekphrasis, the art of vividly describing visual artworks through writing, offers a unique way to enhance your creative skills and deepen your understanding of both art and literature.
This class is designed for writers, artists, and anyone passionate about exploring the synergy between visual and verbal arts. Spend the first 3 sessions engaged in guided writing exercises to create your own ekphrastic pieces, drawing inspiration from works on view. Gather via zoom for the fourth session for formal critique and appreciation. The workshop culminates on April 17 as participants are invited to read their ekphrastic piece before a live audience at the Crocker’s Open Poetry program.
The Museum's highly trained staff and instructors are committed to providing students of all experience levels with a supportive and engaging experience.
